3 Ways To Fight Back Against The Flu This Winter

Posted on

One of the downsides of winter time is when the flu virus seems to spread and infect everyone. Here are three ways that you can fight back against the flu virus this winter.

#1 Get Vaccinated

The first thing that you should do is get vaccinated. Contrary to some rumors out there, getting vaccinated will not give you the flu. It should help you fight back against the flu and should help prevention from getting the flu virus in the first place.

There are lots of places where you can easily get a flu vaccine. Many drug stores offer the flu vaccination; all you need to do is stop by. Many walk-in clinics also offer the flu vaccination if you just walk in, making it something quick and easy to fit into your day. Finally, you can schedule an appointment with your doctor to get a flu vaccination.

#2 Wash Your Hands

One of the best ways to prevent getting the flu is by being super vigilant about your hygiene habits. Make sure that you wash your hands after you use the restroom. Wash your hands before you eat any food. Try to add times into your day where you wash your hands even if you don't have a specific reason to wash your hands.

When you can't wash your hands, use hand sanitizer. For example, if you go to the store and are touching doors and other objects that others most likely touched before you, make sure that you sanitize your hands. Or if you take public transportation, sanitize your hands when you get off the public transport. This will help cut down on your exposure to germs.

Additionally, keep your hands away from your face and mouth. It can be tempting and so easy to touch your face without even realizing it.

#3 Take Your Medication

If you do end up with the flu, head over to your local walk-in clinic or primary care physician right away. Your doctor should be able to prescribe you some antiviral drugs that will help you fight back against the flu and get over it more quickly. You want to get these drugs right away for them to be the most effective. When you get your prescription, go through the drive-thru at your pharmacy so you don't expose other shoppers to the flu. Then, make sure that you take the entire dose of the antiviral drugs that your doctor prescribes to you, even if you start to feel better before they run out. This will help ensure that your body doesn't develop resistance to future antiviral drugs that your doctor prescribes you.

Fight back against the flu by getting vaccinated and keeping your hands clean; if you get the flu, get to your doctor right away and treat the flu with plenty of rest as well as antiviral drugs.
